Each piece fulfilled a different project goal. The Resident Evil work was done for the assignment of reworking a movie poster, while the goal of the candy painting was to paint as realistically as possible. Finally, Aubrey created the Red Panda, and her focus was creating an image out of drawn pencils.
Join us in celebrating Aubrey's creativity and effort!

Help us celebrate outstanding BHSC teachers in a continued partnership with the Kolton Kaiser Foundation of New Albany!
Families can nominate a teacher by completing this simple form. A selection committee at central office will choose from among nominees for that building on a rotating basis (BES one week, HES the next, then BHS and HHS in the following weeks). Names will not be shared with the committee during the selection process - only the reason the teacher has been nominated. Each week, the winning BHSC teacher will be featured in a social media post and on the district's and that school's websites! The winning teacher will receive a $50 Amazon gift card from the Kolton Kaiser Foundation to use!
The quality of the story - not the number of nominations - guides our selection of the week's winner from each building on a rotating basis. Each week, one teacher from the designated school in the rotation is selected. The committee weighs the clarity and impact of nomination stories. Multiple nominations do not increase odds; strong, specific examples do.
Ask your students which teachers are making a difference for them!

We are SO proud of you six. Keep chasing that #BigFuture! 🚀

Borden High School students had the incredible opportunity to welcome a special guest speaker to campus recently: Mr. Andrew Takami, Regional Community Relations Manager for UPS and The UPS Foundation!
Mr. Takami gave an engaging presentation exploring the three major sectors of the economy (Business, Government, and Non-Profit sectors) and how they intersect to drive community impact and career development. Drawing from his diverse professional background, he shared insights from his work leading regional efforts at UPS, his previous role as Director of Purdue Polytechnic New Albany, and his work as Executive Director of Advancement at Ivy Tech Community College.
Our Braves brought high energy to the session, asking thoughtful, high-level questions about career pathways, community leadership, and how these economic sectors interact in the real world.
The learning didn't stop in the classroom! Mr. Takami joined students in the cafeteria for lunch, where the Q&A continued in a relaxed setting. Students thoroughly enjoyed chatting with him one-on-one, asking further questions about his work with Purdue, Ivy Tech, and UPS, and gaining valuable advice for their own post-graduation planning.
Thank you, Mr. Takami, for spending time with our students, sharing your expertise, and inspiring the next generation of community leaders! ❤️🖤

Public Input Requested
Our district is preparing to renew Ed-Flex Waiver #2, a state-approved flexibility framework that directly impacts our ability to recruit and retain high-quality classroom paraprofessionals across all four of our schools.
Traditionally, federal guidelines require instructional support staff to hold a specific number of college credits prior to hiring—even if those credits are entirely unrelated to education or childcare. By renewing this waiver, our district can instead prioritize what matters most: hiring candidates with real-world experience working with children, and providing them with robust, embedded job training as they work alongside our students. This flexibility is essential for maintaining the vital academic interventions and daily classroom support our students deserve.
How You Can Help: As part of the official application process, the state requires us to gather public feedback. Your input is an essential piece of this submission and demonstrates local community support to state reviewers.
Please take less than three minutes to share your thoughts via our brief feedback form: 👉 https://forms.gle/UWa7HHsHXSrt7XSf9

Are you a grandparent or relative caring for children in your family? You are not alone, and there is a wonderful community waiting to support you!

🔎 Each week, a central office committee reviews nominations and selects one educator from a rotating school (BES, HES, BHS, HHS). Winners receive a $50 Amazon gift card courtesy of the Kolton Kaiser Foundation. The nominator’s identity is revealed to the honoree on announcement day to keep the fun and suspense.
This week, the BHSC Teacher Feature Friday spotlights Borden High School.
Doc Nash, BHS, PE teacher
Experience: 20 years at BHS and 3 years at Austin
College/University: Olney Central College and Manchester University
Fun Facts: Mr. Nash loves farming, hunting, and driving a dump truck in the summers!
"My favorite part of BHS is seeing students succeed both in school and in sports. I have had several 'proud' moments that include a lot of basketball memories, but when non-athlete students come to say hi or tell me life stories, that is my ultimate 'win.' I love the relationships our staff develops with our students while they are here and long after they graduate, " says Mr. Nash.
Mr. Nash was nominated anonymously, but the family gave permission to share their words. "He is so much more than a teacher, coach, or a bus driver; he’s a consistent, bright spot in the lives of students. Whether he’s coaching at the high school or encouraging an elementary student at biddy ball camp, he treats every child with the same kindness and respect. He has a special talent for reaching the kids who need it most—breaking down walls built by trauma with nothing more than a laugh and a genuine connection. He’s a reminder to everyone that relationships always come first."
Congratulations, Mr. Nash!
Nominations will reopen next school year for BHSC Teacher Features for each of the four schools.

Keri Sprinkle, BHS, special education teacher
Experience: 14 years (the last 5 have been at BHS)
College/University: IUS & Indiana Wesleyan University
Fun Facts: Mrs. Sprinkle played rugby in college, was a former acting major, and her #1 dream is to host SNL.
Mrs. Sprinkle says, "My favorite part of teaching is getting to be with my students each day and spend time with them teaching them life skills. I share a unique bond with every single one of them. For me, seeing their eyes light up when they finally 'get' something is what it's all about. Those are the moments I adore."
Mrs. Sprinkle was nominated by Dakota Nance's family, who wrote, "Awesome teacher. She has a lot of patience and is very loving and caring. I have noticed a huge amount of progress in all academic areas."
